I have seen every Les Miserables adaptation currently available, and none of them are so consistently accurate down to nitpicky detail as this anime. The atmosphere is excellent, as is the voice acting and character design. At 52 episodes (24 mins each) the whole story can be told but there is also some time added with extra 'bits' to appeal to the younger generation for which it was aimed. However, apart from letting 2 characters live who died in the book, it is still very dark and keeps the overall tone, especially the poverty and grime of 19th Century Paris. Highly recommended for fans of the book (and the musical- there are some obvious shout outs to that as well), as long as you are able to sit through some overlong episodes that do little to advance the plot. The accuracy more than compensates for this!
